Note
I tinkered with this for a long time and came to the conclusion that the smoothest way to play the game on Deck (and with the longest battery life) is as follows:
  • Default settings to begin with (leave the advanced graphics preset on recommended/low)
  • Change scaling mode to FSR 2 Quality Mode
  • Turn off Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration
  • Uncap the FPS limit in game and use the 30 FPS cap in Steam's Quick Access Menu instead. This will enable you to more easily increase the limit if you choose to during less hefty sections of the game and appears to have better frame pacing.
  • Beyond that, I recommend using CryoByte33's CryoUtilities to change the RAM swap file size to 16GB with a swappiness of 1. I also changed my VRAM to 4GB. These are both simple but optional tweaks that may yield extra performance.

  • Motion Blur Strength: Personal preference, but I like it at 45FPS

Advanced Graphics:

  • Frame Scaling Mode: 5/4 (1x250) - I think this helps provide smoother edges and less jaggies than 2x MSAA. This will downsample the game to the deck's native 1280x800, rendering the game at around 1600x1000. Combined with FXAA I think it looks great.
  • If you want this to be even better you can bump it up to 1.500X and drop down shadows, AO and tessellation to normal.

Setting the screen refresh rate to 59Hz negates the frame pacing issues most From Software games have at 60FPS. 9W TDP is enough for all areas in the game to run very smooth and consistent and the battery lasts for almost 4 hours (3:50h).

I also load 60 mods(7maps), about 1.3G disk usage. In this scene battery draws 9-11w. In more common idling/looting in house with few zombies in sight ,batt draws 7.1w around. So the estimated battery life is near 4.3 hours. If less mods are loaded, it should last longer.
